Clear Healthy Skin – Top 6 Tips
There are a multitude of ways to help your skin clear up and feel healthier. Plus, when you have good skin, your makeup applies and looks even better. It doesn’t sit like icing on your face since less product is needed because there are less imperfections to cover. So today I’m going to share my top 6 tips on achieving and maintaining a healthy glowing complexion.
Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize. Use a moisturizer that fits your skin type and apply it on your face every morning before makeup, and at night after your cleansing routine. If I come home in the middle on the day and I’m not planning to go out again, I remove my makeup, cleanse my face and I’ll moisturize then too. Moisturizing keeps your skin hydrated, which will give you a healthy and fresh complexion.
Remove your makeup as soon as you can and NEVER go to sleep with makeup on. Wearing makeup essentially creates a layer of product between your skin and the air no matter how breathable the makeup is, so it is super important to cleanse your face and remove your makeup as soon as you can. Even one night of sleeping with makeup on can do significant damage to your skin since it will sit there all night and clog your pores. I always use baby wipes + a makeup remover to remove all my makeup before I use a face wash to get rid of any debris left on my face.
Exfoliate 2-3 times a week. Exfoliating is often overlooked even though it’s such a crucial step in achieving & maintaining healthy skin. Exfoliating 2-3 times a week will get rid of any dry, dead skin sitting on the surface of your face, and reveal all the smooth (baby butt) skin underneath. Don’t go overboard with exfoliating though. Two times a week is enough for those with sensitive skin and three times for normal skin. I alternate between using a washcloth, exfoliating pad or an exfoliating mask. Rub the mask, washcloth or exfoliating pad in gentle circular motions around your face focusing on areas where you experience the most dryness.
Sunscreen. Always wear sunscreen when you go out. Always. Even if you aren’t wearing makeup that day. Sunscreen will protect your skin from the harsh rays of the sun, help prevent sun spots, and slow down the development of wrinkly, premature aging skin.
Use a mask 2-3 a week. Masks are a great way to rejuvenate and refresh tired, stressed out skin. Whether you use a sheet mask or a regular mask, the best time to use it is right before bed when you can relax, lay back and read a book (or instagram, let’s be real here). Check out my June Monthly Favourites for a few of the masks that I have been loving lately.
You’ve probably heard this one, but drink water. People always say drink 6-8 glasses but as long as your drinking enough water that your pee is a pale yellow colour, you’re good to go. Healthy pee means healthy face, right?….LOL..Seriously though, dry areas around your face will allow more oil to seep into your skin which will then cause breakouts, so drinking lots of water will keep your skin hydrated and prevent that.
If you want healthy skin go ahead and give these tips a go, you won’t regret it 😉
