Monthly Favourites: Korean, High-End, Drugstore – June 2015
The month of June was a fantastic month for discovering (and loving) new products, especially in regards to skin care. But lets talk makeup first.
The new Blushed Nudes Pallete by Maybelline is either a hit or miss. People either love it or they hate it. The palette offers a variety of colours, and while the shadows aren’t particularly pigmented, they are definitely buildable. For the price (I got mine for around 14 dollars) I would consider this a hit. Full review with swatches will be up in a few days so look out for that!
I haven’t used a lot of Sonia Kashuk products in the past because it’s quite difficult to get my hands on since I live in Canada. But I was able to snag the Perfecting Luminous Foundation and it’s pretty awesome. It’s very lightweight, long wearing (I put it on at 9 a.m. and at 5 p.m. still looks good), and it has a very pleasant flowery scent. It’s a luminous-type foundation so it does give a bit of a dewy finish but not too too dewy. It just makes you look very fresh faced and healthy. One layer provides you with a medium coverage, that just looks like your natural skin btw, but it’s also buildable if you want a more full coverage.
Lips are next! I LOOOOVEEE lip products. This month I have been obsessed with the Sonia Kashuk Velvety Matte Lip Crayon in Coraly Nude and the Maybelline lip liner in the shade 20 Nude. They both glide on easily, have great colour payoff and last a really long time on my lips. Tip: I always wear a lip balm over lip pencils or matte lipsticks to prevent my lips from drying out.
The next two items are both from the Korean brand The Face Shop, and they are both face masks. The first one is an overnight collagen mask that you apply before bed and the second one is a sheet mask that you leave on for 15-20 minutes. They are both great because they leave my skin feeling super moisturized and they get rid of any dry patches literally overnight. Bonus? If I notice a pimple on the verge of popping up on my face, I put the sheet mask on the night before and the next day the pimple has either vanished or has significantly decreased in size. It’s a magical mask. It must be.
On to the more expensive products now. But they are worth it I promise! First is the Estee Lauder Day Wear Advanced Multi-Protection Creme. This is what I wear on days when my skin needs extra moisture, extra care, extra attention, extra everything basically. It is VERY moisturizing, even oily I would say, so I never wear it under makeup only on days when I’m rocking my au naturale face. It also has a really nice cucumber scent.
Last but not least is the Josie Maran 100% Argan oil. This product is soo goooodd. I used to have really severe combination skin so I would get extremely dry patches around my nose and mouth but the rest of my face would get pretty oily. This product is great because it balanced out my entire face. I use it 1-2 drops three times a week before bed and since using it I no longer get super oily or super dry areas around my face. I did some research into this product and found that my face evened out because applying a natural oil (such as the argan oil) to your face confuses the oily areas of your face and tricks it into thinking that there is enough oil in place so it doesnt produce anymore. As for the dry areas? It absorbs the natural oil + benefits from the newly added moisture. Doesn’t that make so much sense?
Ok that’s all for now, thanks for reading!
