L’Oreal True Match Lumi Cushion Foundation Review & Swatches
The L’Oreal True Match Lumi Cushion is the newest addition to L’oreal’s luminous foundation line…
It’s L’oreal’s first cushion foundation, and here in Canada it is available in 8 different shades of neutral, cool and warm tones.
According to the website it’s:
Liquid foundation revolutionized – a fresh luminous glow in a tap. Introducing the new True Match Lumi Cushion, an innovative cushion drenched in liquid foundation. Tap a little for a fresh natural glow, tap on more to build a new level of luminous coverage.
Cushion foundations have been a staple in the Asian beauty market for a long time and recently many western makeup companies have started producing these super popular cushion foundations. L’oreal is one of the first companies to hop on to the boat and introduce these interesting and innovative products into their makeup line.
The L’Oreal True Match Lumi Cushion Foundation comes in a compact about the size of my palm. To access the foundation, you open the lid as well as the barrier that holds the pad and voila! Hidden beneath the pad holder is a sponge soaked in the foundation. To use the foundation, you take the pad and pat it onto the foundation soaked sponge then gently tap it onto your skin.
Since it’s part of the ‘Lumi’ line, the L’Oreal True Match Lumi Cushion Foundation leaves the skin with a dewy finish. On the skin it feels very lightweight, breathable and looks very fresh. It has a sheer to medium coverage. One layer= sheer coverage, two layers= light coverage and three layers = medium coverage. I’ve been using it for over a month now and it is super easy and fast to apply. L’oreal calls it, “Your Go-To Foundation, To-Go,” and it certainly fits that role for me. It’s especially useful when I need to get ready in a hurry or when I want to do a quick touch-up while I’m out. Something about the pad that it comes with makes the whole application super fast.
I have combination skin and this foundation sits nicely on my drier areas as well as my oilier areas. However, If you have very dry and flaky skin then I would recommend exfoliating before applying this foundation because I did notice that it clung onto the areas of my face that were slightly peeling, like around my nose. It will cover light to medium skin discoloration but it won`t cover really dark areas.
Without a primer and setting powder the foundation lasts about four hours on my skin before I feel like I have to retouch certain areas, but with a primer and a setting powder it looks great for about six hours before I feel like I need to touch up. It’s not a long wearing foundation, so in terms of longevity it performed the way I expected it too.
While I really enjoy the pad for its quick and easy application, I discovered that the pad absorbs a lot of the product. You will get way more use out of the foundation if you apply it with a different beauty sponge like the Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge or a foundation brush.
I know that when it comes to cushion foundations many people are concerned with a. how hygienic it is and b. whether the cushion dries out. In terms of how hygienic it is, I think it’s completely fine if you aren’t sharing it and you clean your tools before you use it. I wash my sponge before every use so that I can minimize the transfer of germs. I also make sure that the pad is washed and dried before I leave the house so that it’s clean when I need to do a quick touch up later on in the day. As for if it dries out, It doesn’t. The lid seals down tightly as does the second barrier that holds the puff, so you shouldn’t have a problem with the sponge drying as long as you seal it properly.
❋ Expensive – I believe I purchased mine for about $19 CAD at Walmart.
It is pretty pricey for a drugstore foundation, but for me it`s worth it because I like the way it makes my skin look. When I use it it gives me a fresh, clear and radiant complexion. I build it up to a medium coverage but even then I can still see my skin underneath, which is what I like. I gravitate towards foundations that make my skin look clear and even but still natural because I don`t like to look like a cake face haha. I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys foundations with a natural and dewy finish, anyone who doesn’t like to spend a lot of time on their makeup but wants to look fresh and radiant, and or anyone looking to venture into the world of cushion foundations but doesn’t want to buy the more expensive alternatives.
